Ellie’s TPLO Surgery Recovery: Wow! 21 months!

Today marks the two year anniversary of when Ellie tore her CCL. Hard to believe it has been that long. After she initially tore the tendon we decided to proceed with CM treatment instead of going for the TPLO procedure right from the get go. Well, she eventually tore the meniscus as well and that is when we opted for the TPLO. Best decision we ever made and all of the staff at West Hills in Corvallis helped make the whole process a success.

Ellie is just a few months shy of it being two years since her TPLO surgery! She just turned nine years old in December and she is doing just fantastic. She gets a little stiff after a good long hike or after sleeping for several hours but hey? Don’t we all? Her weight continues to stay around 80 lbs and this has been a key component in her almost two years of recovery. She still enjoys a little rub down when she is sore but in all actuality it is the other three legs that give her problems. Her bionic leg is doing just great. She continues to get two Phycox supplements each day and also continues to eat the WD Canine Dry food. Great stuff and she never turns away from her food bowl.

It is a tough decision to go through with TPLO however, if you have a good surgeon, and if you have faith in your dog and yourself, the whole process can be very successful. I believe that Ellie would agree :)

    Hey Russ,

I have to say that I have read all of your posts and it makes me miss Ellie so incredibly much! I am currently in the process of finding a new job (my current situation is has taken a turn because of my office manager), but I hope to still work in specialty. Since moving to Colorado I have learned so many things and one of them is the TPLO. I thought I knew about it before, but I know so much more now! I agree that if you have a good surgeon and faith in those who are taking care of your pet, you will most likely have a great outcome. Your blogs have been great and I love how you talk for Miss Ellie. Hope you are all doing well. Give her a lot of kisses for me please! :) Have a great weekend!

      Ahoy Lindsay!
Sorry for the late response to your comment. Great to hear from you but sorry to hear about the position. Ellie would be happy to write you a letter of recommendation :) You were just wonderful with her and hopefully she can see you again sometime in the near future. I just posted for her upcoming two year TPLO anniversary! Hard to believe. Please keep in touch and continue to let us know where the wind and fate takes you. We wish you nothing but the best.
